Norwegian Pram

Introduction

My latest project (as I continue to ponder my Wisteria design) is a small eleven foot boat called a Norwegian Pram designed by Simon Watts. I'm actually going to be methodical about this construction, tabulating material costs and time to build. I intend to sell this boat when I finish it - I don't need another boat right now and this one would be a bit small for my current rowing and boatcamping needs. But it'll make a great tender for a larger boat!

There are three sections to these pages outlining material sources, construction, and rowing and sailing.

Since I have only basic pictures of my project I'll just point you to the boatbuilding class at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic where Simon and Eamonn Doorly led the class in building one of the prams during the summer of 2003. There's also a nice little blurb about Simon and the boat on the Woodworker's Journal eZine site.

Though Simon was copying a set of the plans for me I also wanted to have a copy of his accompanying How-to-Build book. So I ordered one from Lee Valley Tools who, through Algrove Press, offer both the plans and the book for a reasonable price. I recommend his book for the technical insights and also for his anecdotes which add to the enjoyment of just sitting and reading the plans.
