Grizzly Z-Series 14" Bandsaw
Not high-end but it works just fine - and I abuse it terribly. Well, let me update that...it worked just fine until I abused it a bit too much. In resawing a 10" cedar plank I neglected to wedge the outfeed and the wood pinched my new Woodslicer blade enough to cause smoke to pour out of the motor. After shutting down and letting the motor cool I find it will no longer start. Cooked. Time to replace it with something a bit beefier - and preferably a Baldor rather than a cheaper Chinese import.
In general it's not a bad saw. Mine doesn't have the enclosed base shown in the image. But otherwise it's pretty much the same saw. I've recently (spring 2004) added the 4" riser block kit from Grizzly to increase my resaw capability to 10". The kit included a longer blade which is handy. Took about 30 minutes to install and gave me the opportunity to tear down the saw completely for cleaning.
Eventually I plan to "enhance" my resaw capabilities. I really like bandsaws and I'd like a more capable primary saw - particularly for resawing larger pieces of wood which seems to be how most of the lumber I acquire shows up. First I need a decent shop in which to keep such a saw. The existing indoor shop is entirely filled with the cabinet saw.
