The Sailors

Amateur British & Irish Yachtsmen Before World War One

Oswald Robinson
18?? - 23 April, 1918

The Oswald referred to by Arthur Watts in his article A Three Legged Cruise is no doubth the same man as Lieut. Oswald Robinson, R.N.V.R. During the war Robinson, like Watts and many other amateur yachtsmen, joined the R.N.V.R. where he eventually settled as commander of a Motor Launch — M.L. 424. During the St. George's Day raid on Zeebrugge Robinson was killed when his M.L. was fired upon. A few years after the war Watts responded to a letter from J. Parker Robinson, presumeably a relative of Oswald — and eventually an accomplished illustrator in his own right — with a note. In it he states:

Oswald was a good friend I miss. And a great loss to us all at Dover.
